Journalists Opinion
AJI said: “AJI calls for immediate action from law enforcement, as well as protective measures for journalists. It is critical to ensuring that the media can operate without fear of retribution. The perpetrators, and actors behind this incident need to be punished. By doing so, it will be clear on Indonesia's stance for journalists' protection.”
SINDIKASI said: “SINDIKASI strongly condemns this irresponsible act. This act will not discourage journalistic work that sides with the truth. We sympathise with and support Jubi’s Editor-in-Chief, Jean Bisay, and Jubi’s media workers to report this terror to law enforcement. We also urge the police and law enforcement in Papua to investigate and arrest the perpetrators.”
The IFJ said: “The IFJ condemns this latest attack against the staff and offices of Jubi.id. Police and state authorities must ensure that those who are intimidating, harassing, or attempting to harm journalists for their reporting are held to account. For Indonesia and Papua authorities to uphold its commitments to press freedom, the safety of journalists must be guaranteed.”
